Cody Webb Takes Denver Round Five EnduroCross Win Colton Haaker clinches the championship at the penultimate round DENVER, CO (October 29, 2021) – FactoryOne Sherco’s Cody Webb won round five of the 2021 GEICO AMA EnduroCross series in Denver, Colorado. It was his first race of the series due to an injury that forced him to miss the first four races. Webb used 1-3-1 moto scores to beat Colton Haaker’s 2-1-2 scores in a tiebreaker. But the night was still sweet for Rockstar Husqvarna’s Haaker as he clinched the 2021 championship with one round to spare. This makes five AMA EnduroCross championships for Haaker, which equals Taddy Blazusiak. Beta USA backed Tim Apolle earned third overall in Denver with 4-6-5 moto finishes. It was the first EnduroCross podium for the German. Colton Haaker got the evening started by setting the fastest time during the hot-laps, which set the starting positions for moto one. His time of 46.708 beat out Webb’s 47.954. Cooper Abbott was third fastest with a 48.307 lap. Cory Graffunder was fourth with a 49.913 time and Max Gerston rounded out the top five with a 50.135. Will Riordan blasted to the lead to start moto one ahead of Haaker and Webb. Webb quickly passed both Haaker and Riordan to take the lead and Haaker also got by Riordan. Those three riders held the top three for the entire race despite a lot of action around them. Apolle, Graffunder and Gerston battled for fourth early in the race before Cooper Abbott also got into the mix. Apolle held onto fourth to the finish and Abbott finished fifth in the moto. With the gate picks inverted from the moto one results for the second race, Pennsylvania’s Ryder LeBlond took the lead on the start followed by Spenser Wilton and Abbott. Webb quickly moved through the pack to complete lap one in third and Haaker also moved up to fourth by lap two. LeBlond put up a good fight to hold the lead for four laps. Webb briefly took the lead, but Haaker made an aggressive block pass to make the move and the two riders collided a second time in the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC rock garden. Haaker came away with the lead while Webb made another mistake to allow LeBlond to take the second position back. LeBlond nearly passed Haaker for the win on the final lap but had to settle for second. Webb held on for third. Gerston was fourth in the moto and Ty Cullins rounded out the top five on his TM. Haaker took the holeshot to start the final moto ahead of Gerston and Webb. Webb passed Gerston and LeBlond made some early moves to get into third and held the spot for a few laps before Utah’s Nick Thompson passed him. Haaker led until the second to last lap when he went down in the Matrix to allow Webb to take the lead as they took the white flag. Webb took his second moto win of the night followed by Haaker. Thompson held on to a career-best third in the moto. LeBlond was fourth until a mistake on the last lap dropped him back to eighth in the moto. Abbott moved up to fourth and Apolle finished fifth, to earn third overall for the night on his Beta 300 two-stroke. Abbott was fourth overall with 5-8-4 finishes on his RPM KTM. This was his first race of the season to finish off the podium but he continues to hold second in the championship. LeBlond was fifth overall with 8-2-8 scores to earn the top Junior class points for the night for riders that are twenty-one or under. Gerston was sixth overall on his GasGas with 6-4-9 finishes. Graffunder finished seventh overall with 7-9-6 moto scores on a Yamaha. Thompson was eighth overall on his KTM with 10-11-3 moto finishes. Cullins finished ninth overall on a TM with 13-5-7 moto scores. Will Riodan’s 3-10-13 moto results earned him tenth overall on a KTM. Cody Webb was happy to take the win. “I had something to prove. I was in the TV booth helping call the races and missed being out here showing what I could do. I forgot to breathe after a mistake in that second moto, but I was able to stay close enough to Colton to take advantage when he made a mistake getting around lapped riders at the end of the third moto. The wrist feels good, but the lungs and cardio need some work.” Colton Haaker finished second overall but wrapped up the 2021 championship. “A championship done and that is five now, so I matched Taddy. The race was good for me with a close second in moto one and I came out on top of some bar banging in moto two. Then that final moto I made two big mistakes with lappers on the last couple laps that allowed Cody to get by me.” Tim Apolle came over from Germany to race EnduroCross with support from Beta USA and earned his first-ever podium. “I’m super happy. I had some solid moto scores and was back at the truck getting changed when some people came to tell me that I earned my first podium. My girlfriend asked me last night what are you dreaming about tonight and I told her I was dreaming about walking up the steps to the podium and here I am.” 2021 Denver, CO AMA Super EnduroCross Round 5 Overall Results 1.
